Teacher of the Year

It’s nearly impossible to walk through Eagleswood Elementary School and not see Melissa Hall smiling, either with visitors, her peers or her students.
That’s because the special education teacher, assigned to the school’s self-contained classroom is thrilled with her job, her students and the role she plays in shaping their lives.

“Everyday is different. I love seeing my kids happy. I enjoy making a difference for them,” she said.

It’s that difference that has earned Mrs. Hall the title of Eagleswood Elementary Teacher of the Year for 2007-2008.

“The children in Melissa’s class all have special needs. Melissa has a way of making every child in her care feel special and important,” said Superintendent Deborah Snyder. “She challenges them and encourages them.

They love her!”

Growing up, Melissa knew that education was going to be her future. Her father and other members of her family were teachers. “I always wanted to teach special education,” she said.

She came to Eagleswood School about six years ago, filling in for a teacher who was out on maternity leave. She has been happy here since.

When her students are enjoying summer vacation, Mrs. Hall and her family own and operate Carmella’s Ice Creamery in Beach Haven, another job she finds challenging and rewarding.
